Past lab members
Alumni of the Sensorimotor Lab, now working across academia, clinical practice, and industry.
Brittani Morris, PT, PhD
Completed her PhD in the lab in 2025, focusing on neurobiological and behavioral measures of balance behavior in unilateral hearing and vestibular loss. Earned her DPT from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions and practiced as a PT in Ventura, California, working with both neurological and orthopedic patient populations.
Liraz Arie, PT, PhD
Completed her PhD in the lab in 2024, studying dual-task costs in walking for people with bilateral hearing loss. Earned an MSc in Physical Therapy from Tel Aviv University and worked as a senior physical therapist in Israel before joining the lab; also certified in Pilates and yoga instruction. Her long-term research goal is understanding how motor control and cognitive processes interact, to inform fall-risk assessment and rehabilitation in older adults and people with neurological disorders.
Zhu Wang, PhD
Researches computer graphics, computer vision, and human–computer interaction. Earned his MS and PhD in Computer Science at NYU Courant, where he built much of the lab's VR testing software.
Kristyn Cheng, DPT
Earned a BS and MS in Kinesiology from San Francisco State University before her NYU doctorate, with research spanning sport psychology, human-behavior analysis, and movement science using EMG, force plates, and motion capture.
Jordan Zide, DPT
Completed undergraduate studies at Wake Forest University before earning his DPT at NYU, with particular interests in neurological, traumatic brain injury, and amputee physical therapy.
Andrew Medlin, DPT
Began at the University of North Texas, where he worked in the Applied Physiology Laboratory studying sport performance and activewear, and represented UNT at the Texas ACSM conference. Also a black belt martial arts instructor.
Sarah Mischianti, DPT
Studied developmental genetics and played varsity soccer at Franklin & Marshall College, then worked in biopharma and as a clinical research coordinator at Boston Children's Hospital before her doctorate. Interested in vestibular, neurological, and pediatric physical therapy.
Susie Lunardi, DPT, CSCS
Studied cognitive neuroscience at UC San Diego, working in computational and behavioral neuroscience research, before her doctorate. Certified yoga instructor and strength and conditioning specialist.
Madison Pessel, DPT, CSCS
Studied biology at James Madison University before her doctorate, with interests in neurologic, vestibular, and pediatric physical therapy.
Marta Gospodarek, PhD
Researches spatial audio, sound design, and psychoacoustics for virtual and mixed reality, focusing in the lab on how sound influences postural control. Also worked on audio engineering for NYU Future Reality Lab's VR projects.
